Blog: 5 Ways CIOs Should Prepare For Cloud Evolution

When your organization first adopts cloud computing, your success is directly tied to how smoothly it is integrated: By understanding organizational challenges, costs, and by having a solid cloud strategy, you’ll get the most value for your efforts and minimize the impact to the existing teams.

But what about afterwards? The cloud is constantly evolving and improving, as is your own technology environment: So, what is the best way to prepare for cloud evolution?

According to this recent report from Forrester, CIOs can ensure their organization’s cloud success by:

  1. Being agile. You need to be comfortable letting go of old ideas and work with people who will try something new. Processes will inevitably disrupted: Don’t let this be a block in making changes.
  2. Embracing the cloud broker model. Your future cloud environment will most likely be a dynamic hybrid of private and public platforms. The cloud broker model shifts from static planning of technology resources toward dynamic or even automated sourcing.
  3. Evaluating public versus private cloud. Both cloud platform types have benefits: For example, a public cloud will add features and enhancements more frequently than a private cloud. However, a private cloud will cost less, given you’ll be leveraging an existing data center. Find the balance that works best for you.
  4. Taking one step at a time. Treat cloud computing the same way you would a pilot project – be realistic in its development, testing, and deployment. From there, extend it based on your teams’ workloads and priorities.
  5. Use a service like AWS Trusted Advisor. These services can help ease the company’s transition to cloud. Trusted Advisor consists of automated agents, which reduces costs and increases efficiency of service usage.

As cloud services continue to grow, CIOs must learn to grow with it. Download the entire white paper now to read Forrester’s guidance on cloud adoption.
